7 Quick Tips About Wedding Ceremonies
The moment that starts your life together is on its way: your wedding ceremony! It marks the start of your marriage journey, and is a beautiful opportunity to create a soundtrack and set the mood of your wedding ceremony, so have fun with it!
Here are 7 tips to highlight your wedding ceremony in all the best ways:
Prelude timing: Keep it traditional or relaxed for your pre-ceremony music, or share super-unexpected tunes to add that extra sparkle. Whatever your vibe, we recommend starting your prelude music at least 15 minutes before your ceremony so that your guests can enjoy the story you are telling as they take their seats.
Building the energy: As your bridal party makes their entrance, the energy starts to build. If music is a priority for you, we recommend going with live musicians 🎻 It is so special to have a ceremony musician perform your favorite songs live. You can even have them perform throughout the ceremony; at the bride’s entrance, unity ceremony, or recessional. Here are the top combos to consider:
String duo (two violins or a violin and cello)
String trio (two violins and a cello)
Flute trio (flute, violin and a cello)
String quartet (two violins, a viola, and cello)
Microphones: Make sure your guests can hear your voice and music clearly during the ceremony. Wind can be a factor in Colorado mountain weddings, so most of the time we recommend a hand-held wireless mic. Lapel mics can be used for your ceremony, but can pick up wind and blowing noise more easily, because they’re so small. Handheld mics sound better, and can also be positioned between the two of you, passed, or held on a mic stand.
A tip for your officiant: You’ve made your momentous processional down the aisle, and are now standing at the altar. Whew! You made it! If your guests stood for the main processional of the bride, have your officiant remind everyone that they can now be seated. Sometimes the officiant gets distracted with how awesome you both look, and forgets to remind everyone to sit down. A quick note on the officiant’s timeline goes a long way 🤦♀️
Acoustics: For ceremonies with under 200 guests, usually one speaker on a stand works well to broadcast the music, performers and the microphones. This also allows for your DJ to keep another speaker prepped at the next location (cocktail hour, dinner, etc) so that there is a smooth transition to the second location as guests enter.
Lighting: For most couples, your ceremony will be lit by the sun. Whether you are in full sun or shaded inside, you’ll want to ensure that your ceremony has proper lighting for photos, and also generates visual interest. Not sure what you may need? Our Lit Wedding Lighting Guide can help! 🌟
Making an exit: Celebrate the end of your ceremony and the beginning of the party with an unforgettable walk (or dance!) down the aisle. Flower petals, confetti, sparklers, and bubbles are all great options for your guests to shower you with love. This is an incredible opportunity to turn up one of your favorite love songs or party tracks 🎉 Have two tracks but can’t decide? Use one for your recessional and the other for your grand entrance at the reception, or have us build you a custom mashup!
We know that planning your wedding ceremony takes a bit of work, but if we have any parting advice, it’s to stay present that day at the altar. During your ceremony, take slow deep breaths, and take a moment to appreciate all of the love that is around you 💖 We’ll help you keep track of the music, lighting, and timeline so that you can enjoy your day to the fullest!
